Description:
Created during Chapter 2 (2020 - 2023), this piece is part of the Versions of Robert Collection—a deeply personal body of work reflecting my journey through my mother’s stroke, dissociation, and eventual dementia. This period of my life involved immense inner soul work, each piece acting as a page in a diary, accompanied by a poem or story.
Sometimes, inner soul work doesn’t need to be heavy or serious. Sometimes, it’s about remembering joy, playfulness, and the magic of childhood imagination.
“Mysterious” is a tribute to that playful side—to the inner child, the younger version of us who once saw the world through curious and boundless eyes. The simple yet expressive figure, wearing a hat, feels like a character out of a childhood book—a nod to the whimsical nature of stories and imagination. It’s a reminder that within all the complexity of self-reflection, healing, and life’s journey, there is space for laughter, lightness, and embracing the spirit of who we were, who we are, and who we can be.
This piece invites the viewer to consider:
• What parts of your childhood still live within you?
• When was the last time you truly played, without expectation?
• Can embracing lightness be a part of deep inner work?
A small yet profound piece, “Mysterious” reminds us that healing isn’t always about confronting the darkness—it’s also about remembering the light.
