Created during Chapter 2 (2020 - 2023), this piece is part of the Versions of Robert Collection—a deeply personal body of work reflecting my journey through my mother’s stroke, dissociation, and eventual dementia. Each piece within this period serves as a page in a diary, capturing moments of self-discovery and emotional depth through art and poetry.
“Talking to Myself” explores the dialogue between past, present, and future versions of the self. The soft forms emerge as two figures—mirroring one another, yet distinct—symbolising the inner conversations we have with ourselves. These discussions hold the weight of our doubts, fears, and aspirations, blending into a quiet confrontation of self-awareness.
The fluidity of the brushwork suggests both impermanence and presence, as if the figures exist only for a moment before fading. The artwork invites the viewer to consider:
• What do we seek in the answers we ask ourselves?
• How does our past shape our present worries and future hopes?
• Can we sit with ourselves, in silence, and truly listen?
This piece is an invitation to pause and listen to your inner self. What do you hear when you sit with your own thoughts?

Giclée Print | Talking to Myself
by Robert Paul:
Talking to Myself
..
Talking to myself
..
what is happiness
what is worth
what is this sense of
achieving, needing, having
these substitutes of adventure
this fear of boredom
this craving of attention by ego
this understanding is here staring me in the eyes
..
yesterday’s me
today’s worry
tomorrow’s hopes
..
sitting with myself
..
